The 35 year old beat off competition from team-mates VDS, Nemanja Vidic, Ronaldo and Rio, as well as Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard.

I want to first of all congratulate the legend that is Giggsy for winning an award that he should have won years ago. Also, this post is purely to celebrate his win so I’m not going to go into whether this was actually a reward for his whole career (think Scorsese winning the Oscar for The Departed) or that Vidic deserved it more, because right now we need to celebrate this.

Here are a few words from the man himself:

”It’s right up there, with personal accolades it’s the best to have as it’s voted by your fellow players.

”I’ve been fortunate to win a lot of trophies, I won the young player award twice, but this is the big one.”

The Welsh Wizard has enjoyed an incredible career with United, picking up more trophies than most clubs, let alone players.

Let’s remember what I think is his greatest moment in a red (or in this case white) shirt.
