Larsson Leaps at Loan Deal

Presumably the Swedish legend will be relieved not to have to keep wearing that nascar-esque jersey (yuk). Regardless, Fergie pulled the proverbial rabbit out of the hat today, with the news that great Henrik Larsson will head to Old Trafford in January on loan.

This one certainly came out of left field, and may end up being another Fergie masterstroke (shades of Cantona’s capture?). Probably not, but it’s certainly an intriguing move, that will buoy the spirits of United fans some more.

There’s no doubt we need cover in the forward position – and this move just seems perfect. Nice work Sir Alex!

Smith Chooses to Stay and Fight

I doubt Smithy was smiling when Fergie presented the loan option to a Championship club. However, it appears now, that he will grit his teeth, and fight from within, for a return to first team fitness.

Time will tell if he’s made the right decision – but personally, I’m not convinced he has. I can’t imagine how difficult it must be to come back from such an awful injury. You’d think that he needs games – but can he get that right now at Old Trafford?

Poor Alan Smith. Unable to become a first team regular even before his horrendous broken leg last season – he now may have to wear the Leeds shirt again – in order to return to full fitness, and battle for a place at United. Or perhaps at the somewhat less rubbish club Cardiff City.

I feel for Smithy. He’s a likeable player who hasn’t quite cut it at Old Trafford. But you can never question his commitment. I’d be personally suprised to see him welcomed back at Leeds from their faithful – most weren’t exactly over-the-moon when he signed for hated cross-pennine rivals United. I’m sure such a “betrayal” still lingers…
