We’re Still The Best

By: Wayne Farry | May 17th, 2009

I’ve been going over and over in my head about what I should write about this but there really isn’t much to say. We’re still the best in England. I really don’t see the point in going into depth because it’s all rudimentary at this stage. So I’m simply going to say that I’m delighted. I watched yesterday’s game with three of my brothers and it was all quite muted (much like Old Trafford) until injury-time. As the end of the game got closer, the blood pressure rose and the goosebumps began to appear. Something that seemed like a foregone conclusion for the last few weeks was now about to happen, and it felt great.

As the referee blew the final whistle to call time on a fairly drab 0-0 draw between United and Arsenal our room erupted, everyone hugging each other, apart from the Arsenal fan sitting in the corner (my bros’ friend) who was silently coming to terms with another season of not coming close.

I was especially happy to see the way the players celebrated. All their close families were celebrating with them and it just encapsulated what we love about the club. It’s a close-knit bunch, a real; family club whose success is not restricted to the players, but to their families, friends and the fans.

And here’s a great video that Drabik posted in the previous article’s comments, great video.

There were three pieces of interesting info that came out of the on-pitch celebrations; Fergie saying that he’ll stay on ’til his health tells him to stop, Ron almost guaranteeing he’ll be here next season by saying he’s “really, really happy” and and an emotional Carlos Tevez saying some strange stuff, including saying how difficult it would be to stay. Two of those things I’m happy about, one, not so much but I can deal with it.

No doubt, these things will be discussed later, but not now.

And finally I’ll leave you with what I think is the stupidest quote that has ever come out of anyone’s mouth, enter ‘Pool boss Rafa Benitez as he tries to once again deny that United deserve the title:

“If United have more points, it only means they have more points, that’s all, nothing else.”

Hmmmm, interesting. Crazy Spanish bastard!

So there we go. Please your feelings about us winning the title. Let it out, spread the joy! Like Anderson here. I love this little dude!

how bout eat crap rafa how bout that.

honestly if tevez is gonna play it up so much then he can leave. let the kids come up and be the third option off the bench. get rid of nani and bring in someone who can play on the left…get a d mid for when hargo’s knee explodes again maybe one more defender and we’ll be set to win 4 in a row!

we won this year i think because we have the best manager. chelsea would’ve been alot closer had it not been for big phil’s implosion. liverpool would’ve been closer had their manager not tried to be mr tough guy and caused himself and his team to collectively soil themselves…who had to mop up their change room anyway? and arsenal has a bunch of 10 year olds running around out there…a crazy defender and no holding midfielder. what’d they expect.

either way we looked damn good at some points this year and hope we bring our a game to rome…and also some kevlar.

Umm, and having more points than anyone else at the end of the season equals being the champion.

As a chelsea fan i say congrats. But i think you guys didn’t have much opposition this year. If liverpool are your closest challengers then this season has been an anomaly, with Chelsea imploding and Arsenal being beyond awful at times. You guys were definitely the best side over the course of the season but i don’t think you will be next year.

Next season will be interesting monomatt. Personally I think that with some reinforcements (minor ones) and with Berbatov settled in the team we’ll be stronger than ever. Players like Kiko Macheda and Rafael will have had their taste of the first-team and will be wanting more.

People talk about Chelsea’s implosion and Arsenal being awful as if these sort of occurrences are restricted to this season. That sort of thing happens every season; there’s always a team that shows promise and falls away and there’s always one team who don’t show up.

Liverpool fans seem to think it’s inevitable that they’ll win the league next season, but unless they can start to win against the mid/low table teams they have no chance, that and the fact that they need some decent wingers and full backs.

We’re still major favourites for next season’s title in my eyes, no doubt.

think thats one of the funniest quotes i’ve ever read – what is Rafa thinking? He’s the new age Kevin Keegan……lost the plot!
