“Wemberley… Wemberley… We’re The Famous Man United and We’re Going to Wemberley!” (SINGING)
By: Nick | May 18th, 2007 Ahhh, it feels great to be back in the cockpit after my pilgrimage to Blighty, where I’ll admit I probably ate a few too many pies, doner kebabs and fish ‘n’ chips. And the less said about the gallons of cider I merrily consumed the better. Let’s just say that the cider industry (particularly this member) witnessed a pretty healthy (sic) spike in consumption over the fortnight of my stay.
As far as United related stuff goes, I unfortunately arrived just in time for the damp squib in Milan, enjoyed the title party at Stamford Bridge, then frustratingly saw us hand West Ham their Premiership survival — before raising the trophy all us fans covet more than any other.
So now it’s time to focus on the long anticipated return of Wembley Stadium – and the quite exciting meeting with title runners-up Chelsea and their entertainingly mad manager (woof).
Needless to say, football fans and the people that paid almost a billion pounds to build the thing are salivating over tomorrow’s showpiece event between this season’s biggest Premiership rivals. Who can blame them really, for it does look mightily impressive (I caught a glimpse from the train to London on Saturday — it’s big). And inevitably so are the prices forced onto the fans.
The BBC has a rather nice video preview of the building and it’s excellent toilet facilities here. What happens if all 2,600 are flushed at once I wonder?
