Vidic Could Face Three Match Ban; I Hate the F.A.
By: Taylor Rockwell | August 24th, 2009
The Football Association (FA) have announced that Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic could face a three match ban for his alleged altercation with Wigan centre forward Hugo Rodallega during the Red Devils’ five nil victory at the DW Stadium. The FA will review television footage of the incident to determine if the Serbian defender did in fact slap Rodallega in the face (ostensibly in response to a blundering tackle on United keeper Ben Foster).
Referee Howard Webb did not see the initial altercation, but will be consulted by the FA regardless. The incident occured off the ball, and caused a rather heated 30 seconds of chaos. Indeed, Rodallega himself could face discipline for his rather physical response to Webb’s attempts at restraint.
I haven’t reviewed the video footage myself, so I can’t be certain of the actual events. What I can be certain of is that I was skeptical upon initial viewing, but having had time to reflect, this could end up being an issue. Technically, this shouldn’t be an issue, as I don’t believe any of the referees saw the incident first hand. However, the FA have decided to act and I don’t think that that means anything good for United… Especially when you consider that Rio Ferdinand is definitely out with injury and Jonny Evans could go under the knife for leg-knack.

Hugo Rodallega made a complete meal out of it. The ref should have sent him off as he nearly got a slap himself!

I can’t believe more people aren’t trying to connect Carrick being on the bench with the stories about us trying to swap him for Modric. Not that the transfer would actually happen anyways, but seems like a perfect chance to create a juicy rumor.

Defensive crisis in the making. This is an all too common situation for us.

Webb is recomending no action be taken. Bring on Arsenal!

although i hope and pray nothing happens, vidic did slap him lightly. i would be really annoyed with him if he does get suspended because even though it wasn’t as hard as rodallega made it seem, vidic shouldn’t have put himself in that situation to begin with.

SP, ITA, but with how he behaved throughout the match I think Rodallega was lucky Vidic didnt murder him.
