United v. Spurs – Belated Highlights

By: Taylor Rockwell | January 26th, 2009

Dears Spurs,
Thank you for Dimitar Berbatov. You’re welcome for Frazier Campbell and the opportunity to pay off some of Darren Bent’s awesome contract… that £16.5 million figure must look quite nice while you watch him nod sure-thing goals over the bar.

Sincerely,
United

First Half Highlights

Second Half Highlights

Here are the player ratings according to Goal.com. And here are the player ratings from the Manchester Evening News.

Saturday saw three new faces make their debuts for the Reds. Fabio da Silva got his first full start and, believing it to be this season’s tradition for starting defenders, went off with an injury and allowed teenage red-head Richard Eckersley to make his first appearance as well. Newly signed midfielder Zoran Tosic also got in a few minutes, making this FA Cup match-up far more interesting than Harry Redknapp’s earlier comments would have indicated.

All in all, I was very happy to see us progress, but less than thrilled to look at our list of walking wounded. As of today, it looks something like this:

Name Injury Return Date
D Welbeck Ankle/Foot Injury no return date
Fabio Calf Muscle Strain no return date
Rafael Hamstring Injury 21st Feb 09
P Ji-Sung Hamstring Injury 2nd Feb 09
Nani Groin Strain 2nd Feb 09
Anderson Ankle/Foot Injury 21st Feb 09
J Evans Ankle/Foot Injury 21st Feb 09
W Rooney Hamstring Injury 2nd Feb 09
P Evra Ankle/Foot Injury 2nd Feb 09
R Ferdinand Back Injury 2nd Feb 09
W Brown Sprained Ankle 2nd Feb 09
O Hargreaves Jumpers Knee May 09

Yup. That’s a full starting XI out with injury. It could be worse… one of our starting central midfielders could have been picked up for DUI prior to kickoff.

    Dear United,

Firstly you said “Dears” at the beginning of the post instead of dear. Secondly you’re welcome for Berba, He didn’t want to play for us so we were happy to take that amount of money for him. Thirdly We’ll see you at Wembley.

    Sincerely,
    Spurs.

Maybe Berba’s finding his form after having read your Big Mac-inspired dig at him previously…..

Haha note how I failed to defend Bent in the response, but yes agreed I did want to shoot myself.

At least this Match allowed both united and Spurs to put their young players out and have a run around. Bummer that Fabio and Rafael are both out by the way, those kids are unreal. It was interesting to see Slave actually look concerned for Fabio when he got hurt, mainly because i figured helping someone else out would mess up his hair.

Welbeck was really good too, I bought him from united on Footy manager and he plays out of his mind.

hopefully both our sides will be a lot more fit for the Cup final.

Also, how good was Carrick’s pass for Berbatov for the goal? Again, thank you Spurs.

Seriously… is there a direct pipeline between White Hart Lane and Manchester that we didn’t know about?

Miele, I like that point about Berba and am now electing to run with it… you read it here first: The ManUnited Blog on TheOffside.com is single-handedly responsible for Berba finding his form. You’re welcome world.

You should start overpaying Spurs bloggers to write on here, that way the blog mimics reality.

    1) that last free kick that wsa shown in the second half highlights, was that a tosic free kick?
    2) The Spurs goal, everyone keeps saying that Foster had no chance, and shit happens etc etc, but it didn’t look to be so far away from him, nor too fast or spinning away, why couldn’t he have dived to stop that?
