United to No Longer Be Sponsored by the American Government
By: Taylor Rockwell | June 3rd, 2009
It has been officially announced that Manchester United have agreed to a new kit sponsor beginning in the 2010-2011 season. United (in the form of David Gill) have put pen to paper with Aon Corporation, the world’s leading risk adviser and human capital consultant, on a four year deal believed to be worth £80 million (£20m per season).
Gill, whilst drooling at the number of zeros dancing in his head, stated “We look forward to being closely aligned with the world leader in risk management, a firm which shares our values and is an exciting partner for Manchester United. Today’s announcement clearly strengthens our position as one of the biggest clubs in world football.”
Greg Case, president and chief executive officer of Aon, seconded Gill’s statement. “It is a unique opportunity when two leaders in their respective fields can come together in a partnership such as the one we are announcing today.” He then contacted his online research division to learn that their homepage had exploded due to millions of people trying to figure out just what Aon company does.
You can go here to learn about how Aon plans to use United to pimp out their wares, or go here to read the company’s official statement. While I’m not entirely sold on being sponsored by another insurance company, I definitely feel a bit better not having to be constantly reminded of United’s rising debt by owning a shirt with a company that’s currently only still in existence thanks to a $150 billion bailout.
