United 2 – Boca Juniors 1: Match Highlights

By: Taylor Rockwell | July 30th, 2009

He did it. He finally did it. Two years after he was signed from Porto, Anderson scored his first goal (shootout penalties don’t count) for Manchester United. And what a goal it was. A left footed bender off the post from about 25 out started yesterday’s match off properly, and Valencia’s semi (okay, very) lucky shot put the Reds up 2-0.

As a result, United will advance to the “Final” of the “tournament” where they will meet Bayern Munich, who trounced a struggling AC Milan side 4-1. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:45 EST, so check back for updates.

Hey Taylor, I’m new to this (really kickass) blog, so pardon me if I sound like a noob, but why is Ronaldo called Slave here?

Also, even though friendlies don’t really count for much, what did you think of Owen and Valencia thus far? I was dubious, but now I’m a convert. I was a little bummed that we couldn’t get any people I had on my wishlist, like Ribery or Benzema, but, c’est la vie I suppose.

I never get tired of the word “noob”… it makes me laugh to an absurd degree… Anyway…

I call Slave Slave primarily because at this time last year, he was pretty much openly begging for a move to Franco FC (Real Madrid). United wouldn’t let him out of his contract and refused to sell him, prompting FIFA President Sepp Blatter to refer to the situation as “modern slavery”. Slave then went on record as agreeing with Blatter’s comments, in effect calling himself a Slave. Which, for me, was enough of an asshole move to merit that permanent nickname…

I would pretty much completely echo all of your statements about our transfers thus far. I liked Valencia early on, and always figured he would be good. As far as Owen goes, I was a little more worried. Right now, he looks like an excellent partner for Berba (hopefully Rooney too) so hopefully that one works out as well.

I will also admit I was very disappointed regarding Ribery. Benzema hurt primarily because he obviously chose Madrid over United, but I’ve been drinking the Owen Kool Aid, so that one isn’t as painful. I think Ribery would have been a great signing for us, but his 90 million Euro price tag is just a bit too much for a player that’s unproven in the EPL.

Thanks for visiting/posting. Keep coming back!

3 things I noticed from those highlights:

1 – Anderson hasn’t scored in so long he doesn’t remember how to celebrate.
2 – Notice Valencia has number 25? Which used to be Danny Simpson’s number. Does this mean he is on the way out?
    3 – I hate spic commentators. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!
