Tour 2012 continues

Manchester-United-v-Valerenga-2012[1]
Quick round up of the latest tour news. As you know, we’ve moved into Europe now with Valerenga of Norway. The match itself was 0-0, thanks to a combination of missed chances and a goalkeeper blocking shots almost as if he made a living that way. But the more important news was the return of Nemanja Vidic, out since early last season, who completed an hour of play. Also returning were several of players from the Euros: Nani, Rooney, Welbeck and Young.

Notable by his absence was the gaffer, Sir Alex, who was involved in ‘other club business’. Pretty much guaranteed this was transfer business according to the papers, but whose specifically is unclear. Some say it was Van Persie, a thought strengthened after Mancini announced he thought the Dutchman would not be joining City. But until anything is definitive, no one is saying anything for sure.

In other news, Giggs and Cleverley bow out of the Olympics to South Korea. Rafael is still present in the Brazil squad. Nothing really surprising in a UK team leaving on penalties, but as an interesting aside, Giggs’ one goal in the tournament added another record to his collection, that of oldest Olympic goalscorer.

The Tour continues with a showdown with Barcelona on Aug 8th, before a final match against Hannover 96 on Aug 11th. Then its on to the league opener away at Everton on Aug 20th.

Any comments below as usual please. Given I’m running things here alone, any discussion lets me know what readers, if present, are thinking and a smallish indicator of how many of you are there :) I realise we’ve shed a few after such a long session of inactivity.
