Sunderland vs Man Utd – Match Preview

By: Wayne Farry | April 11th, 2009

Today at 3pm GMT we play Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. Sunderland are going through a torrid run of form that makes our form resemble our unbeaten run a few months back. This isn’t going to be a long one. I’m just up and haven’t had my coffee yet so I’m not fully coherent. But we need to win this match, no doubts.

You may have seen this interview with Sir Alex, in which he speaks about his desire to win trophies at United, and you just really hope the players would have that belief.

This match isn’t going to be an easy one, Sunderland are deep in the shit and will be working their arses off to get their first win in a while.

Some have called for us to play a weakened team here, so we’re full strength for Porto on Wednesday. If you ask me that’s a load of crap. We need to play our full strength team at every single possible occasion until the season’s end.

Some injury news, Rio is still out. Evans could, only possibly face his former club, but it apparently looks more likely that John O’Shea will fill in. Here’s the team squad for the trip, make of it what you will:

Van der Sar, Foster, Kuszczak
O’Shea, Neville, Vidic, Evans, Evra, Eckersley
Ronaldo, Nani, Fletcher, Gibson, Carrick, Scholes, Giggs, Park
Rooney, Tevez, Welbeck, Macheda, Berba

Anyway, enjoy the match. And leave your comments as the match progresses and your rants or whatever.

There was a minute’s silence at Anfield today ahead of the LiverpoolBlackburn game to remember the victims of the Hillsborough tragedy as the 20th anniversary approaches. It happened on April 15, 1989 and although I was only very young at the time, things that I have read and watched since have enlightened towards the events. What happened that day was absolutely tragic and puts into perspective the triviality of football. 20 years on, I hope that justice is finally found for these people. RIP.

And all title stuff aside, fair play to Liverpool for putting on a good show for their fans on a day such as this. They played great and won 4-0.

Not to be too much of a nerd, but has anyone seen the first “Goal” movie… cause Kiko seems to have stolen their plotline…

Ha, yeah all Kiko’s got to do now is get involved with the dodgy player in the squad, dabble in some class-A narcotics and find himself a nice Northern girl.

Awful performance again. We’ll need to be a lot, lot better to have a chance of beating Porto.

Evra and Ronaldo have looked the easily most tired players lately.. they needed this rest badly.. hope they and Giggs, Fletcher and EVDS will be fresh on Wednesday..

Yes, yes I would. He’s in a crazy run at the mo. Pity we have to depend on a 17 year old though.

Wow, the request to rest Evra and Ronaldo (albeit for almost the whole game) was granted. Thank you Lord Ferg!

Dear God I hope it works and we score a few at the Dragao.

My favorite bit thus far: “No prizes for guessing who’s keenest to get to Porto: young Macheda’s the first to check in amid a flurry of flashbulbs.”
