So That’s How You Win The Double!?
By: Wayne Farry | November 19th, 2008
Gerard Pique, former Man Utd and now Barcelona centre-back has revealed in an article in the Telegraph the many things he found strange at Man Utd during his time with the club. Among other things, he states that he couldn’t understand Sir Alex’s accent when he first arrived, shocker!
But more importantly he revealed the Man Utd players’ diet. According to the Spaniard, Man Utd players live on a diet of beer and burgers. Must be why we have so many chubby players like Nani and Ronaldo. He states that all the players eat what they want..
In Mr. Pique’s defence, he did admit that his time at Old Trafford made him the player he is. So, okay?
But I just have one very simple question for the universe, if the diet for EPL and CL winners is beer and burgers, then why the fuck am I sitting on my ass typing at this laptop instead of polishing my Champions League medal?

Don’t be bashing Pique. He calls it like he sees it.

^ Damn right, Gazza wasn’t a bad player in his day either..Back in the 50s to the 70s all the players had a big steak meal before the match and had a fag at half time. I don’t condone it but that’s how it worked.

And look at Thomas Brolin’s time at Leeds Utd, He ate what he wanted and still made himself a club legend. Of sorts

This is exactly what Florent Malouda said when he went to Chelsea, and he got crucified for it in the English press.

Thing is, you criticize a diet when you’re not winning, and preferably when you’re in the starting XI. Not when you were a bench player and the people whose diet you’re criticizing just won the European Double… I just find it very funny that Man U beat Barcelona (isn’t that where he is now?), Roma and Lyon (Malouda was bashing the Chelsea diet too, no?) to win the Champion’s League last season, even though seemingly they were fat and eating badly, whilst their opponents were lean and eating reasonably/well… Perhaps Xavi and his pals aren’t all that good then, and Carrick and Co. are underrated! Imagine what Man U would be like if they had a better diet! They’d probably win the league and the Champions’ League… Oh… Wait…

Sarcasm all the way from China… Outstanding… By the way, Rooney said it in an interview himself… After every game, he goes out and gets a bunch of Chinese food. Not exactly burgers, but still….

Meh. We were crap last season, and you guys still had to park the bus in front of goal to win on a 1-0 aggregate. We’ll see what happens this season.
Personally, I think that player diets are overrated. Speaking as a racing cyclist, calories are what counts. Some guys go fast on Coke and Twinkies, some guys go fast on the super-duper, macro protein mojo juice.
To each their own, I say. Pique is just taking part in the fine tradition of letting one’s ex-team have it a bit. I’m sure he doesn’t mean very much of it. Strikes me as a fun-loving lad. And given his laconic attitude on the pitch, I can see why Ferguson sat him so much. He drives us crazy in Barca-land sometimes.
