Random Bits of Unitedy Goodness

By: Taylor Rockwell | February 4th, 2009

As if he had somehow heard everyone screaming at him to score, Ando took time this week to acknowledge his dearth of scoring opportunities earlier this week. When asked when United fans would get to see him hit the back of the net, the young Brazilian responded, “Maybe one day I’ll score a goal! Perhaps a shot will fly in or somebody else’s will hit me on the way to goal, or maybe I’ll be allowed to take a penalty! Sure, I’m bothered about not scoring but what’s more important to me is that we win.” When the obvious follow-up question of “how will you celebrate” was raised, Ando stated, “I think I’ll be so excited that I’ll just do a lap of the pitch!”

Most United fans would agree that West Ham has, in recent years, been a bit of a bogey team for us (we’ve lost our last two matches at Upton Park). So good news coming from Old Trafford this week as both Patrice Evra AND Wayne Rooney should be fit for first team service. Given that a week ago, our back line was projected to be O’Shea, Neville, Vidic, and Fletcher, I think Brown, Rio, Vidic, and Evra looks a tad bit better. With Rooney back, I would hope that we can (forgive me for this) hammer the Hammers.

With the return of Brown, Rooney, and Evra, our starting eleven should look something like this: Van der Sar, Brown, Rio, Vidic, Evra, Slave, Carrick, Giggs/Scholes, Park, Rooney, Berba.

Bench: Foster, O’Shea, Fabio, Scholes/Giggs, Welbeck, Rooney
Players left out: PIG, Neville, Park, Tosic, Gibson
Players injured: Rafael, Evans, Anderson, Hargreaves

Given that the last time we played the Hammers, we saw Berba’s first bit of brilliance in a United kit, I expect him to factor again. I’m seeing this as another 1-0 away victory. Score predictions, friendly readers?

I think ‘Sarit’ copied and pasted everything on the page. I think once Rooney’s back, he’s straight into the team, no doubt…

I am thinking a 2-0 victory. Rooney scores in the first 15 minutes and get this, Ronaldo scores from a free kick in the second half.
