O’Shea to Start Champions League Final; In Other News, Air is Good to Breathe
By: Taylor Rockwell | May 20th, 2009
Any dreams Rafael da Silva may have had of his start at Hull City this weekend actually meaning something were apparently put to rest this morning, as Sir Alex Ferguson announced John O’Shea would be starting in the Champions League Final. “John deserves his place… Because of the injuries to Gary Neville and Wes Brown, he has become a permanent fixture. He is ahead of everyone now,” stated the United manager. Bit of a backhanded compliment that one… sort of like, “John deserves to start… wait, are there any other reliable alternatives? No… we’re sure? Well then John deserves to start.”
“To my mind John is one of the unsung heroes like we had when Denis Irwin was here,” continued the manager whilst, most likely, obliterating 80 sticks of chewing gum at once. “His performances have improved simply because he has been playing consistently. He is an intelligent lad with a great work rate. I am really pleased for him.”
So congrats to John O’Shea. This isn’t exactly breaking news (as most probably considered this declaration a foregone conclusion), but I figured any bit of news regarding May 27th was news worth discussing. I can’t say I have always been the Irishman’s biggest supporter… or even a mild one… but he’s certainly played himself into prominence this season. And, to be honest, I can’t argue with the selection. On paper, I really like the idea of Rafael and Evra bombing down the wings. In reality, I don’t think we can risk getting caught out by that Barca attack. Plus, if there’s anyone who’s tackling could intimidate Messi’s play (besides Paul Scholes) it’s John O’Shea… and worst comes to worst, we can just throw him in goal like we did against Spurs in 2006.
Actually, not a bad performance there… great tackle on Keane…

Actually, on second viewing, I realized that on that Robbie Keane 1v1, he stops, starts, stops, and then starts again… not exactly technical keeping at its finest, but a clean sheet is a clean sheet…

He was just doing that stop…start…stop…start again thing to psyche Keane out.
BTW: I didn’t see anything referring to air being good to breath there..
