Olympic debate

Not strictly Utd news, but several of today’s papers carry an interesting debate point concerning the Welsh players in the Team GB squad, including Ryan Giggs. As captain, the spotlight is on him somewhat, but is applied to all the squad’s Welsh representatives, with regards to the team’s anthem. Although a GB squad, the squad’s anthem is the English anthem. It has been noted, and criticised, that the Welsh players remain silent throughout the anthem, and that this is disrespectful. Personally, I don’t view it as such, but I am Welsh, so may not be in the best place to comment.
However, not every player sings during anthems. If Rooney remains silent before an England game, he isn’t disrespectful, he’s contemplating the game ahead. Perhaps that is also the case for the Welsh players at the Olympics. Robbie Savage tried to simplify the debate by saying perhaps they don’t know the words. Just wondered what people think of this: disrespectful or the press making something of nothing? Comments appreciated below.
