Manchester United Tour 2010: Updates and Info

Schedule

Ticket Information: If you still haven’t picked up your tickets for any of the above matches, then you can head over to the Official Manchester United 2010 Tour Ticketmaster Page or (if the internet isn’t your thing) then order over the phone by calling 1-800-745-3000. If you’re looking for better tickets at a slightly steeper price, then you may also want to give eBay and/or Stubhub a moment or two of your time.

Squad Information: The official site has confirmed that the following players will be in attendance (although their level of involvement is still open for interpretation):

Edwin van der Sar, Darren Fletcher, Michael Owen, John O’Shea, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Dimitar Berbatov and Antonio Valencia

However, it’s probably safe to say that more than eight players will be touring North America. United Manager Sir Alex Ferguson has already confirmed that he would like to use the tour as an opportunity to get new signing Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez (fresh from his World Cup campaign with Mexico) some first team experience. So, “The Little Pea” will hopefully make his United debut somewhere in North America… although I believe he’s contractually obligated to appear when The Red Devils’ help Chivas de Guadalajara open their new home (Estadio Chivas) on July 30th.

So that makes nine. It’s pretty unlikely that any of the other United players who traveled to South Africa will be making an appearance, although almost all could use the experience. So, expect any of the following names to participate in the tour:

Likely: Tomasz Kuszczak, Rafael da Silva, Fabio da Silva, Gary Neville, Chris Smalling, Darron Gibson, Jonny Evans, Wes Brown, Gabriel Obertan, Federico Macheda, Ritchie De Laet, Mame Briam Diouf

Possible: Danny Welbeck, Corry Evans (Jonny’s younger brother), Joshua King (talented reserve striker), Paul Pogba (17 year old midfielder who initially rose to prominence due to the Le Havre transfer drama).

If Injury Permits: Nani, Anderson, Owen Hargreaves.

So, if you haven’t been keeping track, that’s a possible pool of 27 players that could be heading toward North America in the next few weeks. It’s all very exciting, and will hopefully help me forget the USA’s semi-depressing departure from South Africa. COME ON UNITED!!!!

Why is United playing Celtic in Toronto but the home MLS team in all their other North American games? :S

To be fair, Owen did okay at last season's Asian tour. That old hunter's instinct and all that.

  • "it’s probably safe to say that more than eight players will be touring North America"

You never know, Fergie may have decided to show an unprecedented level of disrespect to US opposition. By which I mean charging their fans money to watch Michael Owen. Zing.
