Man Utd Club Awards – Results
By: Wayne Farry | May 17th, 2009
The Man Utd in-house awards ceremony took place Sunday night in Manchester. Only a day after winning their third EPL title in a row, and equalling Liverpool’s longstanding record of eighteen league titles, the club held their annual award ceremony to honour the players.
Last year, Cristiano Ronaldo swept the board with three awards including the Players’ and Fans’ Player Of The Year, also known as the Matt Busby Player Of The Year award. This year, it really was up for grabs between a number of players. Anyone out of Rooney, Rio, Fletcher, Giggs, Vidic and VDS could have won it.
However, the winner on the night was the man who shockingly (in my opinion) missed out on the FWA Player Of The Year award; Nemanja Vidic. The Serb picked up two awards, the Matt Busby Player Of The Year and the Players’ Player Of The Year.
There is no denying the centre back deserves the award, as he’s had a stunning season in both the EPL and the Champions League, combining brilliantly with Rio Ferdinand and, when necessary, Jonny Evans. He had these remarkably deep, foundation-rocking words to say:
“I’m honoured. It’s amazing to get these awards. I’m very happy here at United.”
Cristiano Ronaldo, although not as award-laden as last year did pick up one gong, this time for Goal Of The Season for this.
Here are the award winners from the night:
Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year; Players’ Player of the Year – Nemanja Vidic
Goal of the Season – Cristiano Ronaldo (vs Porto)
Denzil Haroun Reserve Player of the Year – James Chester
Jimmy Murphy Academy Player of the Year Kiko Macheda
