Let’s Get Back To The Now

By: Wayne Farry | July 12th, 2009

It’s been a while folks, so let’s catch up on some of the recent goings-on. Obviously, we bought Gabriel Obertan. The lad is twenty years old and promising but his progress has slowed down recently and he is no longer as heralded as previously. Saying that, he was great in the Toulon tournament recently and was only £3M so I think it could be good for us. Here’s the guy in action, with a cracking Arctic Monkeys tune (Dancing Shoes) with it. After the jump.

Other news out there is that Fergie is apparently resuming his interest in Gremio’s promising youngster Douglas Costa. He’s being hailed as the ‘new Ronaldinho’, which is sorta good but then again, many have been spoken of in such a way and come to little more than average. Anyway, according to The Guardian, Gremio are piss poor at the moment and may have to sell the whipper-snapper to get by. They want £21M but United want to pay £7M and add-ons as the years go by. Anyway, here’s a video of him too.

So what do you think about all of this? Is it good that we’re buying forwards or should we focus on filling the massive gap for a tackling centre-midfielder? Tell us now.

i dont really mind buying either of them so long as we come through, like you said, with some sort of defensive midfield option. i wouldn’t mind some cover at cb as well, evans looked good last year…wes brown was hurt so maybe he’ll be back in form, but o’shea…i mean come on. bruno alves wouldnt hurt us i dont think.

I think it is fantastic that we are building for the future, but I would also love some CM cover. Just some sort of stop gap until Hargreaves comes back.

I’m sticking with my man Mahamadou Diarra, bring him in on the cheap.

i think i’d soil myself if we came away with diarra. i bet they’d have to seal the deal for xabi to move him though.

I would like to see Costa at the club but not for £20+ million as it is always a risk buying a South American player for the Premiership especially for that type of sum.

i know i’m probably of a small minority here, but i wouldn’t really mind if we didn’t make another signing. “OHMYGOD are you kidding me? we lost tevez and ronaldo!!!” yeah, but we got a striker who is better suited to come off the bench and who won’t make such a big deal out of playing his role for the team. and now we are forced to use our youth on the wing and develop the likes of tosic, obertan, kiko, welbeck, and maybe even nani, and i don’t know about you guys, but i know sir alex is more than capable of making stars out of at least 3 of them. also, no transfer drama will be better for the squad.

sure our squad next year won’t look as good as last year’s, but barca replaced ronaldinho and deco (who were both very good with barcelona) with alexander hleb last year and we know how that worked out.

I am also alright if we don’t make anymore signings. I mean, who am I to doubt SAF?

I think we have a squad to challenge and win the Premiership, but if we signed some midfield depth, I’d be alright with that too.

Actually Hleb didn’t do a lot really. Anyway Ferguson has put an end to our summer by announcing that we’re not making any more signings. Now what do we do with ourselves…?

Also, I am a bit concerned about the DM position. But if Sir Alex thinks the squad’s ok, then the squad’s ok.
