Inter v United – Live Blog
By: Taylor Rockwell | February 24th, 2009
Going to try to use this instead of the usual process… hopefully it will negate having to update all the time…
Quick Update: Starting Lineups
United: Van der Sar, O’Shea, Ferdinand, Evans, Evra, Fletcher, Carrick, Giggs, Park, Berbatov and Ronaldo. Subs from: Foster, Rooney, Nani, Scholes, Fabio Da Silva, Gibson and Tevez.
Inter Milan: Julio Cesar, Maicon, Rivas, Chivu, Santon, Zanetti, Cambiasso, Muntari, Stankovic, Ibrahimovic and Adriano. Subs from: Toldo, Cordoba, Maxwell, Figo, Cruz, Burdisso and Balotelli.
Big surprise up top for United. No Rooney? Slave and Berba up top, with Giggs and Park on the flanks and Fletcher/Carrick in the middle. Really wanted to see what Slave could do on the wing (Beckham v Inter in 1999?) Ah well… hopefully Lord Ferg knows what’s best…

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Ronaldo hit the wings occasionally, maybe swapping with Giggs from time to time.
Could be possible…

the way the match is going so far…if inter get out of this without giving up an away goal, man of the match honours go to Cesar

We played better than I expected, especially considering the injuries. But what a wasted chance, we could’ve had that in the bag.
Story of the season, really.

i feel though like this game is going to be a huge confidence boost for us coming to the return leg. We proved that we can take it to Inter on their turf. We’ll be pretty confident we can come out winners on our own.

Yeah you’re right. Easpecially with Vidic back we should be way better going forward at Old Trafford.
It’s just that we’ve never had it so easy I guess, and yet no precious away goal.
Btw, thanks again for the liveblog, really enjoyed it. Damn I have to go to work in half an hour.

oshea was excellent today. i thought fletcher and berba were complete shit and shouldve been subbed off at halftime. other than that i cant complain much but we should’ve scored.

Frankly, I don’t see how this is a confidence boost for you.
Your team was favored. In fact on these very pages you said: “Jose Mourinho’s Current Team (the one that we will be destroying sometime next week)”. I don’t think Inter consider themselves destroyed…
We played what essentially was our 6th choice center back (for a half in Rivas), our 3rd choice center back (Chivu) and an 18 year old (Santon) in his first Champions League/International game and held the team that was considered the second best in the CL scoreless.
Plus for every goal we get on the second leg, you need to score 2.
The only thing that doesn’t make me confident is that you guys get away with too much stuff. Like handling…

coming from an inter fan that’s fucking hilarious. was adriano’s flabby forearm at weight watchers today? was it in his shinguard when he shat all over himself in the box and managed to kick the ball into his own leg ruining a golden shot on goal? don’t get your hopes too high, buddy. john o’shea…who sucks normally…ask any of us…managed to make whoever ran at him look like turd, as well as jonny evans…who’s 21 and obv not first choice either. do you actually think you faced the best united team today? rafael or fabio, along with vidic…rooney and/tevez from the beginning of the match? you don’t have much to be confident about yourselves.

Inter lost last year to Liverpool in the round of 16, and to Valencia the year before. Hattrick!

No, we dont have to score two goals to every one you score, Mad, we have to score just ONE more goal than you, which, barring anomolies/mistakes in our otherwise godlike defence and as long as your team play like they did yesterday (which, acccording to some over at interoffside was *ahem* good!) then I think we’ll be ok
