How we won # 19

groupThere were undoubtedly numerous turning points in our season that we can point to as the moment(s) when we got our act together and started playing like champions. There have also been some tremendous individual contributions that put us in the position we were in heading into yesterday’s game needing only a point to clinch the title.

Over the next few days, I’ll try to list a few of these moments/individuals that set us on course to win our record breaking 19th English title.

-17 wins 1 draw and 0 losses at Old Trafford. It’s been years since a team with such an awful away record has won the league. We clinched the title with only 5 wins away from home all season. That’s an away win percentage of just over 26%. The champions of prior seasons have all achieved a respectable win % of over 50%. We managed only half of that. What saved us? Our amazing home form. People argued last season that OT was losing its edge as an intimidating place to play at. We may have reestablished that fear in visiting teams again this season. The last time a team had a winning home record closely resembling what we put together this year? The PL winning Mourinho coached Chelsea side of the 05/06 with a home record of 18 W and 1 D.

chicharito_26555-Javier Hernandez. If you haven’t heard of him by now, you must be new to this blog. In fact, you must be new to the sport and Manchester United in general. If he does not eventually go down in our history books as one of the greatest buys that club has ever made, then, we must be in for some even more exciting signings in the future. He has been praised and lauded by his more celebrated teammates, his manager and sports writers from all over. In a season in which we’ve spent lamenting our lack of big name signings and star quality, it was a modest almost unnoticed £7m investment that has gone a long way in winning us this year’s title.

Um, you jump on the hype train while forgetting how you even got there.  No mention for the top scorer?

Let's just look at games where Berba was the decider - scored the winner in Blackpool, hattrick 'gainst the Pool, salvaged a point against Everton, safe to say that the Blackburn game was his, Sunderland, a point against Birmingham, hattrick against Birmingham, winner against Bolton. 20.

Let's look at the Hernandez deciders: Everton, winner against WBA, drew WBA, double against Stoke, and let's give him the Chelsea game....  13.

    Count the points.

Berbatov won you the league.  Hernandez is the future, is better and all, but give credit where credit is due.
