Hell’s Bales!
By: Nick | January 17th, 2007
I’m not too thrilled with reports that Gabriel Heinze might be a Spurs target – with the young Gareth Bale allegedly a target to come to Old Trafford (in the future at least).
Even though he’s lost his starting place to Patrice Evra (who quite frankly has been superb this season) – what’s the logic in selling a World class left-back, especially for a measly five million quid? That would be a loss of almost two million for us! That just doesn’t add up to me – and I’m no mathematics professor.
I know precious little of Bale – except he’s young, Welsh, highly rated, and supposedly has a wicked left foot. The fact that he’ll be loaned back to Southampton for the rest of the season, simply makes letting Heinze leave even crazier.
My underlying fear is that this scenario might be driven by the Glazer family’s penny-pinching. Is Heinze expendable to fund the Bale purchase? Are things so bad that they won’t sanction any purchase without first raising funds? That just seems ludicrous – but in the secret, strange world of the Glazers, anything is possible.
