Ale -- no hard feelings at all. I appreciate your comments.

nsd6 -- You make a good point about young foreign footballers in the uk. You're right, they never dreamed of playing in England.

I just think Ronaldo could have gone about things differently, perhaps even privately.

I don't believe it was for money either...its somewhat difficult for an englishman to comprehend, but the dream of many players outside of england isn't always to play for Manchester, or Liverpool, or Arsenal.

I guarentee you that Ronaldo didnt even really WATCH english football growing up...but he saw plenty of portuguese and spanish football...namely Real Madrid.

I would like to believe that his ultimate goal is greater than money (and in all honestly, if you're making 100K a week vs. 120K a week, I don't believe the extra 20K is really worth all the shit you're going to have to take for doing it).

Throw in the weather, food, cultural, and his mothers expressed wishes and its not really so difficult to understand.

But who knows? Maybe he really is just a prick looking for money.

Nuno...there's no way giggs or scholes would leave for financial reasons, don't be ridiculous. And I don't believe that ronaldo wants a move for the money either, united are richer than real. Which makes it harder to accept I suppose.

Real Madrid lured Ronaldo, Man utd lured Berba and lured and signed one Roma finest young prospects (Whose name I dont recall). Much in the same way, Chelsea lured Robinho this summer. I dont think Ronaldo is better or worst than other footballers - He like the others, just follows the money.
He is a spoiled brat, no doubt about that - But in this subject he acted as expected for a professional footballer. A bigger payroll was offered and he wanted it. Dont think for a minute that if enough money was trown at their feet, Scholes and Giggs wouldnt want to leave Man Utd for a "different chalenge"

Trust me, I'll be the first to point out he acted like a spoiled little bitch this summer. I thought he had matured (somewhat) in that respect over the past few seasons but it'll apparently take a bit more...

I don't live in England and I don't talk to United fans every day, so I can only guess... I just have a feeling it'll turn into a 'forgive and forget' situation once he's back and scoring...

I'd think it'd be alot easier for fans to dislike him now when he's being paid as you said to just sit in the luxury seats then when he's sending United to the top of the table (hopefully).

And you're right, "you" was a bit generalizing, although unintentionally. No hard feelings.

Ale - It's funny how you refer to we United faithful as "you", as if we're some great big red collective. News flash - we're not. Sure, some fickle fans will cheer him once he's back and presumably, scoring goals, but for the rest of us it'll take a whole lot more.

He behaved like a tit all Summer to the glee of no one but the British tabloids and presumably, himself. He disrespected the club, his manager, his teammates and most importantly the fans mere hours after one of the clubs greatest triumphs, fifty years on from it's greatest tragedy. It was a significant event for United to win the European Cup in 2008, make no mistake.

So no, "we" won't all stop our complaining once he's back. For some of us, perhaps even most of us, I'm not sure what it'll take for that to happen. Serious damage has been done, make no mistake.

It's nice to get some dialogue around here.
