Hammer 5 – Nail 0 – Match Highlights
By: Taylor Rockwell | January 28th, 2009My first inclination was to gloat about how I had predicted this result in the match preview. Then I took a look at the standings, noted that we’re top of the table and West Brom… well… aren’t, and I realized that it probably wasn’t exactly the Nostradamus-esque moment I had initially thought it to be.
Regardless, last night was a sure fire sign from United that they will be going full force for the remainder of the season. People always says that, to be a champion, you have to be able to pull out a win in the close games. And United have done that time and time again this season. How many close 1-0 and 2-1 games have we had this season?
However, I would take it a step further and say that you’ve got to be able to pull out the close wins when necessary, but also hand out a thorough shellacking every now and then. Too many close results make you look vulnerable and weak. A 5-0 victory that demonstrates the world class talents at your squad’s disposal does anything but that.
First Half Highlights
United 3 – WBA 0 (Vidic)
United 4 – WBA 0 (Slave)
United 5 – WBA 0 (Slave)
I must admit that, although I loved seeing United pour on the goals, my favorite bit of yesterday’s match was the red card. Every England fan has, since the Croatia game where this happened, believed Paul Robinson to be synonymous for failure. And who was it who was sent off and completely ruined any chance West Brom had of staying in the match? Baggies midfielder Paul Robinson. Anyone with the surname Robinson take note: STOP NAMING YOUR KIDS PAUL!!!

OK… maybe I’m overanalyzing, but watch the clip of Slave’s first goal… notice that Berba puts in a 15 yard sprint to get into the box? Not the greatest evidence, but he definitely wasn’t making that run earlier in the campaign…

im gonna tell you what i love about Ronaldo’s first goal….was that he said something to the extent of ” Madre Puta ” after yelling and what not.
maybe it was due to frustration lol. Hopefully little kids werent reading his lips when he said it lol.

Yeah… I caught that too… I can’t figure out who/what he was swearing at… all I can guess is that he was pissed that he hadn’t scored sooner… regardless, it was hilarious…

There were United supporters on that side of the ground.. hope Ronaldo was not swearing at them!

What does Madre Puta translate to in english?

Just search google, its basically a much ruder version of “your mum.”
I thought robinson was the left-back? In fairness to him it was a questionable red. The ref completely lost control of the game after the sending off.

aside from inter’s checkbook can someone explain why vidic has to sit out a champs league match and not just any other old match

Under Fifa’s disciplinary system, Vidic is suspended from the next ‘club competition match at confederation level’. That effectively means the Champions League
