Foster Injured Again, Football World Stunned

By: Wayne Farry | May 18th, 2009

United ‘keeper Ben Foster has undergone surgery on his thumb and will miss the remainder of the season.

This is another in a long line of injuries suffered by the United backup keeper, making him probably the second most injury-prone goalkeeper in England, just behind Chris Kirkland.

Foster has played nine times for United this season, and it has been his most successful with the club to date, which says a lot.

He starred for us in the Carling Cup Final, where his fantastic performance in normal and extra-time kept us in the game, and his penalty heroics won the trophy for us. He’s had really shitty luck with injuries at United, suffering from knee injuries as well as a string of other minor ones.

This latest surgery will rule him out for about two months, meaning he’ll miss the Champions League Final (which he probably wouldn’t have featured in anyway) and England’s summer internationals (which he probably would have featured in).

One consolation is that the twenty six year old will be recovered in time for training for the 2009/10 season (thanks SP), one in which he’ll no doubt attempt to stake his claim for the permanent #1 shirt.

Get well soon, Ben.

(Please excuse my poor MS Paint skills)
