Ferguson charged, Carrick’s new deal
By: Shaun | March 3rd, 2011
To no one’s surprise, SAF has been charged by the FA for the comments he made about Atkinson at Stamford Bridge.
Were his words harsh? Yes. But they weren’t an inaccurate assessment of the ref’s overall performance.
The FA keeps holding managers accountable for their statements. When will we start seeing that accountability demanded for refs and their performances? Maybe that’s not possible since refs are after all, only human and if we held them all accountable, then we wouldn’t have anyone left to ref the games. If that’s what it is, then surely managers should be allowed to express their frustrations. How can accountability only be demanded on one end?
In more surprising news, Carrick has signed a contract extension to stay at the club for another three and a half years. I for one was under the impression that he would be part of the big clear out this summer. Is that just a myth then and can we expect to see the same midfield next season minus Hargo? Granted, Carrick hasn’t been the worst performer for us this season, but he hasn’t exactly reached the heights from a couple of seasons ago when we had him tagged as the next Paul Scholes. Has SAF seen enough from Carrick this season to have offered him this extension? Or is it based on the knowledge that he’s capable of more than he’s shown in the past few months.
Keeping my fingers crossed that we don’t hear news of a Gibson or Bebe extension.
