FA Cup Brings in the Villans

By: Nick | December 4th, 2006

fac1.jpg While the “romance of the Cup” might be somewhat antiquated – I still think there’s little doubt the FA Cup is easily the most prestigious domestic cup comptetition in Europe.

Supporting United in the 1980’s – the Cup was truly one of the few things to look forward to! I’ve great memories of watching the finals at my house with friends – with all of the pomp and build up on the BBC. It truly was an event back then.

In fact, I still remember the glee I felt, not only when we took the trophy, but also when Wimbledon upset Liverpool in 1988 (all of my mates were Scouse fans, and were just gutted). There’s just something very pure about the FA Cup – especially the time a non-league team welcomes a big club (with requisite prima donnas) to their tiny little ground.

After struggling with non-league teams ourselves the last couple of years, this years third round has delivered Aston Villa – in a battle of American ownership to boot.
