Dear Laurels, Prepare to be Rested Upon
By: Taylor Rockwell | July 13th, 2009
So it’s being reported that Fergie has had enough of all this rampant transfer speculation, and has decided to bring a close to United’s transfer window. “It is the end of our business, so all these stories about who were are supposed to be getting – forget it. I can only placate the fans this way and say I am not going to be stupid. We have got that wonderful sum of money from Real Madrid but there was no way we were going to throw it away and put an extra nought on the end of the transfer which I didn’t think was value.”
So, if that’s to be believed, our solution to losing Slave and Tevez, and having a distinct lack of playmakers in the center of midfield is to sign an established winger, a 28-year-old attacker/physio nightmare, and a 20-year-old with questionable experience. I’ve got to say, this doesn’t exactly leave me feeling thrilled.
There’s a distinct possibility that all of this is just smoke and mirrors. To be certain, this summer has caused transfer fees to skyrocket. With that £80 million now off the market, teams may be more likely to decrease their asking price. However, if Fergie stays true to his word and United pack away that transfer money, then consider me concerned about the coming campaign.
I’m not trying to cause a panic or overstate anything, BUT WE’RE DOOMED. Just kidding. However, the fact remains that a midfield that was obviously outclassed by Barcelona hasn’t significantly improved, our attack is now pretty much solely based on Rooney and Berba staying healthy, and everone else is pretty young. That’s all a bit simplified, but what can I say… I’m a bit perplexed.

You may have to re-ignite your Manucho man-crush. Or hope that one of Macheda/Wellbeck can step it up.

Not to say that he will, but didn’t Fergie say something to the effect “there’s still a month left before” the transfer window ends, “everything’s possible.” in the press conference today?

he did joel. our midfield isn’t good enough. that’s plain to see. i like carrick and fletcher and ando but only one of them has time to significantly improve himself just based on his youth…the other 2 are what they are: good players that aren’t good enough when it comes to playing the big timers.

I’d personally like to see Fergie sign a “hard man” for the midfield. Hargreaves won’t be back for a while, and who knows if he’ll be the same. The problem is, who would that “hard man” be?

Mahamadou Diarra.
Does anyone know why Valencia and Obertan were not given squad numbers today and Owen did?

It’s smoke and mirrors t get the prices to dive down a bit.
On other news, I’ll be watching United practice and play vs the Malaysian selection on the 17th and 18th. Anything I should look out for, like if Wes Brown is still alive? You guys might want a report and pics right?

Miele, that would be lovely… can you also see if Gary Neville can still run, thus settling the age old debate of “do real zombie’s run or merely shuffle awkwardly”?

I wouldn’t be surprised if there was another signing before the end of the window, Ferguson tends to play down his transfer activity.
