Carlos Tevez: The Ongoing Saga
By: Taylor Rockwell | November 25th, 2008It would have been safe to assume that given the injuries to Cristiano Ronaldo and Dimitar Berbatov, tonight’s Champions League clash with Villarreal would have been the opportune time to give Carlos Tevez the chance to once again find his scoring (or at least, skillful playing) form. Instead, we saw Ronaldo and Rooney play all ninety minutes while a frustrated Tevez sat the bench for the entire first half, warmed up for the next forty minutes, and got in with just enough time to hear the whistle blow. Such a situation begs the question: what has happened to our Argentinian striker?
Those watching recent matches have seen a clearly frustrated Tevez fail to hammer down his place in an ever-evolving United lineup. Indeed, it now seems clear that Lil’ Carlitos is the second choice option when both Rooney and Berba are available. His minutes and opportunities have diminished, and so too has his overall form. Not surprisingly, the frustration seems to be getting to him (just look at his face when he was substituted against Villa on Saturday). I imagine one would see a similar face as the Argie headed for United’s dressing room after a negligible outing against the Amarillo Submarine.
So, what do you, dear readers, think is going on with Tevez? Was Fergie simply content to have the match end in a draw? Why then would he put on Tevez with minutes to play? It seemed almost like punishment more so than an opportunity. What do you at home think of the recent developments in the ongoing saga of Carlitos Tevez, and will we still have him come the summer transfer window?

the way this saga seems to be going is an exit to Real Madrid, etc in the offseason. If Fergie rates Welbeck and Cambell high enough then let it be and make a profit. I will be sad to see him go if he does leave though.

Tevez is not owned by United, so there’s no money to make there Paul..

Could it be that he is in some way being sacrificed to Real with the promise that there will be no further approach regarding Ronny?

i definitely see tevez taking off if he doesn’t start seeing more time on the pitch. maybe real, maybe somewhere else but with berba and rooney playing well, and a decent amount of youth at SAF’s disposal doesn’t help his chances much. Fraizer Campbell is doing pretty well at tottenham too so he’ll probably be back at united soon enough. just more competition for tevz. I’d like to see Carlos go somewhere where he is the main man and playing all the time. maybe spurs can give campbell back and take tevez for a starting striker! haha not likely. i see him in spain soon.

is it a coincidence that utd have looked nowhere near as good as last season since leaving tevez outof starting lineup???i know berbatov is great player but the side just doesn’t look balanced when he’s in.his goalscoring record also hasn’t been all that great{better than robbie keane surely!}2 prem goals both of them against promoted teams,is that good enough?forget about all the assists he’s made he was brought to score and there are plenty other players to make assists.he’s miseed too many good chances.now i’m not saying tevez is better finisher than berba but he just scored too many vital goals and is a damn hardworking player.he just needs a run of 5-6 games and he’ll be fine again.but looking at the way things are going i just see him leaving in the summer and i would be really sad if a 24yr old player who has a potential to be one of the best strikers will leave manu.

I firmly believe that we were way better with Rooney and Tevez up front than we are with Rooney and Berba. I think Fergie is trying to challenge us. He knows we want Tevez back in the starting line up but that Scottish man is surely one stubborn person. I hope come the end of the season, we won’t see Tevez leaving United. He’s too good to let him go.

to play fat, lazy Berbatov over Tevez is a mistake .. to shell out the GPD of a small nation for fat, lazy Berbatov and let Tevez stew with no deal in sight could be fatal ..
i’m sure Madrid is much nicer than Manchester in the dead of winter ..Posted from

I agree with Steven… Tevez must be sitting their on the cold, wet Manchester bench, constantly looking at pictures of warm, sunny Madrid on his iPhone…

Totally agree with swapnil, Oliver and Steven.
Tevez is way too industrious and a great striker to let him go.
Only one thing would change my mind – if the situation is as Kaushal suggested – it may have to be a choice between Tevez and Ronaldo.Posted from
