A Tale of Two One Nils

By: Daryl | August 19th, 2009

As Taylor mentioned, he’s away for the week. And apparently he’s without internet. Or he’s lazy. Or drunk in a ditch. Maybe all of the above. So, until he returns here are a couple of videos from Man Utd’s first two Premier League games of the season:

Man Utd 1-0 Birmingham

Burnley 1-0 Man Utd

I’m officially neutral here, so will leave the reactions to you…

what happened to wayne? drunk in the same ditch i guess. i didn’t get to see either game but i mean…slow starters right? i mean fergie really likes having owen coyle in the prem…

i don’t know. i do know it’s not because berbatov is “lazy” or “sucks” or whatever lazy fans that don’t actually watch his full contributions want to call it. i do know that giggs in the middle of midfield is a nonstarter, anderson on the left is ridiculous in every way, fletcher isn’t nearly as top class or as missed in rome as everyone makes him out to me, and michael carrick is a spurs level player on his best day and depending on what state of manic depression spurs are in that can be good or bad…but it’s always inconsistent. i don’t think he’s nearly good enough…no one that’s an actual mid is except hargreaves…especially with a new winger, a defensive winger, a winger that’s too small, a winger that still thinks a jheri curl is cool, and a winger from france who is hurt right now.

    there.

that’d be funnier if all of last season he and rooney didnt have to run to the half way line in hopes of getting the ball from our “deep lying playmakers”

Berba ain’t the problem. It’s that we have got zero creativity and no ability to break down a back line with probing, forward passes from mid field.

I have also been wondering what has happened to Wayne? I even thought this post might be his return, but no.

eh United usually start the season slow..and generally not at all that great. I’m not worried, but I would like to see a midfield playmaker brought in.
Burnley were class and entirely deserved that win. I hope they do the same when they play the others in the big 4.

I hope the old gaffer has had the hairdryer out yesterday night… that was pitiful… first of all they let them play..thinking that Burnley were minnows..then they tried but did not make through the Burnley defense.. the midfielders have no idea what to do with the ball … Carrick was so uncomfortable with the ball i could not believe ..

Hargreaves was brilliant when he played, Carrick is class on many days as well, Fletcher has really improved, Scholes and Giggs still play good enough but not really for a full 90, and valencia should fit in nicely – but he’s not a game changer.
Anderson still needs to step up, Nani needs to become his own man, and Park needs to learn to pass accurately and put the ball in the back of the net from a yard out.
Problem is not one of those guys is a real game changer. People are bemoaning the loss of Ronaldo, but he isn’t a game changer either. We haven’t had one since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer retired.

Far too early to point out any problems at Old Trafford. Eights points off the pace at christmas last season and so many leads pulled in over the years. A bit of credit for Burnley maybe who were well worth all three points

New the website, came across it on my blackberry and found a United blog feed or something…anyway. Just want to rant my frustration with the recent performance too. I think I sympathize and largely agree with what Ben above has said. Ben, you left out Park Ji Sung, what do you say about him? I can not think of any performances by Park where he created a goal or a chance for someone. He’s supposed to be a winger, yet he can’t dribble, he can’t run with the ball, he can’t take anyone on, he can’t cross, he’s got no balance and is always tripping over or falling flat on his face. Why is he in the team? Only to please the Asian market? Nakamura is way better, even that Enzo guy who played against Utd in the World Club game last December.

After the PK failures has anyone in the team been practicing them? Why isn’t Rooney banging them in the way he bangs down opposition players when he gets frustrated. Not one player can consistently take accurate shots from outside the box maybe the exception is Gibson. 70-100K a week and they can’t shoot accurately from distance? Yes, I hope seriously hope Fergie gave the players a hairdryer after that game because if this continues even a top 4 finish isn’t likely. If there isnt a win against Wigan then the next 3-4 games could pretty much kill the season and 4th title shot, Arsenal, Man City, Tottenham.
