Inter Milan Benefit From Some Pretty Poor Defending

By: Nick | August 1st, 2007

No fresh gravestone’s needed after this one.

Some shabby defending in all honesty, but it is pre-season — so we can blissfully shrug our shoulders and hopefully put it down to rustiness (gulp).

Adriano’s own goal was an absolute peach. Let’s hope it was a errant clearance, and not simply that he forgot which goal was his own.

I didn’t see the game against Inter but based on what I’ve read it seems that Man U might be in trouble in the back. Ever since the beginning of the transfer season I’ve been saying Man U needs to bolster the defence. The games against Madrid in the UCL said enough. In addition, the loss to Chelsea in the FA Cup as well as the stumble at the end of the season when the major defenders were injured also spoke volumes. Man U needs to persuade Heinze to say, as well as spend some good money on two reliable defenders. The fee acquired from Rossi and possibly the sale of Smith could help United in that aspect. Fergie needs to act fast cause the season is just a few weeks away. If they decide to go with what they have now I can’t see them conquering Europe, or even worse, defending their league title.

Well although I only saw the goals I heard it was mainly just Evra playing so bad at the back and I suppose we still have the community shield to test the defence before the season starts if Heinze goes then we need to get Chiellini/Drenthe/Baines because I dont think I’d be comfortable with Silvestre although O’shea isn’t a bad left back.

That goal was the second time i’ve seen Ronaldo cross the ball from a free kick and both times it has led to a goal(L’pool)so maybe he should stop taking shots from 40 yards out when we get frees and cross a bit more.

But one of the reasons for him (CR) to score as many goals as he did last season, IMO, was exactly cos he started going more often for the shots…
