This Isn’t Cute Anymore/Share Your Thoughts

By: Wayne Farry | April 7th, 2009

Oh my God! What is happening?!?!?!?!

What is wrong with this team? It’s like every single player except Wayne Rooney either doesn’t care or are playing football for the first time in their lives.

We drew 2-2 with Porto tonight, at home. You may be surprised to know that I’m not that annoyed with the result. If anything, I think the 2-2 draw flattered us. Porto were the better team throughout, they were quicker, more concise with passes and looked far more of a threat. Were it not for one moment of great awareness and another of genius from Wayne Rooney we’d have lose this game 2-0.

After the Villa game we all thought our blip was over, but it’s obviously not. I’m starting to really worry for our season. if these players can’t get themselves together and somehow transform from the nervous, talentless wrecks they’ve become lately then we’re well and truly fucked!

Thanks for letting me vent. I’ll fill this out later with some more meaningful stuff, right now I’m just so angry.

If anyone’s as angry as me right now, and I’m sure there are lots of you feel free to rant away, using as many fitting expletives as necessary.

Dude, if you look back at the post I made after the draw I said that it was probably the best draw, but I never said Porto would be easy at all.

You (not so sure about the team) seem to have an ‘us against the world’ attitude, but I must must applaud the ambition. Porto aren’t a bad team, and I admit a few of us may have underestimated them, but none of us ever said it’d be easy.

Wayne, why must you slight everyone? Is it cause you’re Irish? See? I worked in sarcasm AND a veiled ethnic slur… that’s how it’s done… oh, and I hate United right now…

AAAAAArrrrgh.this team makes me wanna pull my hair out at times.
. The last. 4 games, we habe been diabolical,
to say the least. Amd if we don’t fix up sharpish
we’re in danger of letting apotentially magnificent season go to pot…
I think Rooney, Tevez and park need to start every game. They r the only ones showing any bottle. And maybe fletcher too..

Dumi, you got it right. Roo, PJS and Tev are the only ones with any steel. It will interesting to see if having Rio and Vidic back together will effect the team.

You have to imagine that Rio and Vidic’s return will be a huge boost to the organization of ManU’s defense. I’m mean, come on, who can lose their two best defenders for major games and expect to really compete?

Oh, you and your overly-loaded roster. Imagine that.

Yeah, I hate EPL teams, but at least Rooney is finally getting respect as a good player. And maybe someday (in the distant, distant future) Cronaldo will play defense after he loses the ball. But we all know that won’t happen.

Yeah, hopefully they’ll steady the ship, so to speak! And it is good to see Roo getting appreciation which he’s long deserved. That touch for Tev’s goal was pure magic.

And you’re right, C-Ron will never track back. It was his dicking about that caused Villa’s second on Sunday and his poor pass that started off the move for Porto’s first today.

    It really sickens me.

I’ve really been impressed with Rooney lately…I still think he’s a hot-headed prick, but as you’ve mentioned, he’s one of the only United players that consistently looks like he actually gives a shit. I’ve got no time for Ronaldo, I thought he was a prima donna last year, but it’s insulting to watch him this year. He’s brilliant and talented and cleans up well, but he’s mostly the anithesis of the reasons I love football.

I rewatched the ‘97 4-0 demolition of Porto to drown out the pain. Giggsy was simply a young god of football. Sigh.

    /Rant begins/
To be fair, Ronaldo tracked backed once in the second half (first time ever in his life?) and actually got the ball. This wondrous occurence was met with sarcastic cheers all around.

Which makes him even more of a Real prick, because if Ronaldo + heart +/ Tevez’s workrate = destroyer of everything in the football universe.

What’s even more gutting is this team really needs that prick, he’s one of the few genuinely world class performers we have.

Yeah the defence was bad throughout the game (Vidic had a few good moments) but this is understandable considering etc. But WTF is going on in midfield? Do our CMF even exist anymore?

Who should I bribe / kill to get Hargreaves back? Or time travel for a young version of Scholes? /endrant/

I didn’t catch the game unfortunately :( But on the subject of Porto aren’t they being thrown out of the Champion’s League next year for match fixing? Hmmmm…bit too much of a desire to win FCPorto2004?

elle, agreed on all 3 points. I volunteer to hold his greasy head for u to aim better.

vs Sunderland SAF might as well drop the first team (barring Rooney, Tevez, Fletcher, VDS and Vidic) instead put in all of the young ‘uns. Drop Evra and Ronaldo especially. They need some time off or something.

    Riiiight, like it’ll ever happen.

I am just as furious as everyone else, but I think we to take a few things into consideration.

1 – We are deciamted by injuries all over the park, but to me the biggest is at RB. We are down to our third choice RB in Neville and 4th choice in JOS. This season, for me, has show the importance of Wes Brown. He is easy to target as an average player, but he links up well with whoever is on the wing, provides above average service into the box, and defends well. Consider the play of Neville and JOS in the past months, it has been okay, but imagine if it is Wes mixed in with Rafa, I see us as a much stronger team. Let’s not forget how important it is for Ronaldo to play with a back who he can link up with and interchange with. Neville and JOS do not give him that option.

2 – Owen Hargreaves. I know it has been mentioned throughout the other posts, but he is a massive player. Last season, United had success because they had fantastic play from their central midfielders. Scholes has really shown his age this year and Carrick really needs to play with someone who compliments his passing ability with some steel. Owen is also the type of player who can pick a team up with his passion and desire. Who can do that now? Rooney? Possibly. Tevez? Maybe, but there is no one else. Finally, you know what position Hargreaves fills in quite adequately at? RB.

3 – Formation and team selection has been frusterating for me. We are a 4-4-2 team. Not a 4-5-1 team or ever a modified 4-3-3 team. Last year, we knew what we were playing each game.

VDS, Wes, Rio, Vida, Evra, Ronaldo, Scholes/Ando, Carrick/Owen, Giggs, Rooney, and Tevez.

Due to injuries and some of Fergie’s selections, I don’t think we know what our best XI is. I think we need to get healthy (obviously) and also get some consistency back in our team selections.

i’m back on the john oshea hate train with full force. that dude is easily the worst right back in the champs league…then he’s spelled by a geriatric who is a legend but doesn’t ever need to see grass under his boots again. carrick is not a holding mid as has been mentioned.

i thought evra did alright…he’s small and stuff but he charges into a mess and he does try his damndest to win headers. he played well i thought.

that bastard for porto…johnny twofootslidetackle de la perreirra de la simao de la sabrosa para tu y yo fernando cb is an asshat that should’ve been sent off for the crap he pulled.

I know they’re playing like headless chickens when I find myself cursing at the TV in front of my kids. I can live with CR not tracking back, as long as he doesn’t give away the fucking ball so cheaply. As for JOS, I used to think he was a dependable backup, but no more. And is it just me, or does anyone else notice that the Neviller was the ‘covering player’ in a number of the goals we’ve conceded recently?

I wouldn’t worry too much about that Paul, I was cursing at the TV in front of my niece and nephew.

O’Shea has gone to shit lately, and Neville, dare I say it, seems past it. He was ball-watching for the second goal last night and let Mariano drift right in at the back post.

Fergie should either make Rafael our permanent RB next season or go looking for someone like Philipp Lahm during the summer.

I dont know guys on one hand it’s a beating at Anfield, such joy. On the other hand, Rafa does not seem like he can multitask so if they’re out it may make the Premiership race that wee bit harder.

Never mind, just focus on our own team then. Buck up boys, please!

I seriously think that all these talk of Man U’s form and Liverpool losing is irrelevant. Anyone who watched Barca humiliate Bayern in the 1st half will know that no team right now can trash them. I’m a die hard Man U fan but I think that the combination of injuries, loss of form and confidence is a step too far to win the Champions League. We still have a decent chance of the domestic treble, but Barca on this form are totally unplayable. I hope I’m proven wrong though..
