Man Utd vs Arsenal – Match Reaction
By: Wayne Farry | April 29th, 2009
We pretty much outplayed Arsenal tonight, we had more chances, more possession and our territory was very impressive. If it weren’t for Manuel Almunia’s heroics for Arsenal they would have ended the game three or four goals down, but as it was we won 1-0.
In my view, and considering a lot of comments on the LiveBlog, Anderson was very very impressive. As was Rooney, who tracked back an awful lot and still posed a great attacking threat.
I am pretty happy with the result, having had some time to reflect, but I still would have liked that extra goal.
Anyway, let us know your thoughts on the match, were you happy, angry or indifferent regarding the result? Either way, let us know.

Rio’s status is huge, not just for the second leg but for the league run-in, as well.
Aside from that, we’ve got to be pleased.

Yeah, you’re right about that. Sorry for not mentioning it. I just wanted to do a brief go-over of the whole thing and let the comments speak for us, so to speak.
But from how Rio looked when he went off it appeared to be an impact injury as opposed to a muscle strain. I could be wrong, but I think bringing on Evans was purely a precautionary move.

I think Rio’s okay, he wanted to go back on. 1-0 was a good result but normally I would wonder if the lack of a 2nd goal would come back to hurt us. But this Arsenal team didn’t look convincing in attack except maybe three or four times, and I’m not sure that even at home they can conjure up enough firepower to overcome our defense. I could see another 1-0 result next week.

If we’d been given this scoreline before the match, I’d have taken it. Now, however, I’d have like at least 1 more. Anderson had real drive tonight AND completed his passes successfully. He hasn’t really done both in a single game this season. As for Almunia . . . never really rated him until tonight. He single-handedly kept them in the tie.

Thought you guys deserved a couple more today. I, however, don’t think you’ll have much of a problem scoring at the Emirates.

I have respect for Aluminia, he was the sure reason Arsenal never conceded 6 goals. Arsen Wenger should look at his defence and midfield. Adebayor and Fabie are a good combination. We hope they can make it the 4 goals they did last at Emirates. I still beleive the gunners are a better option.

I was particularly pleased with Rooney’s performance, although Anderson was good too. I thought Rooney really slotted well into the wide role. He’s just like a kid playing football in the park, he’ll play literally anywhere and love every second.
I didn’t think the second half was that good though, or what I saw of it at least – I fell asleep at about 70 minutes…

How much do you think it would cost to get a giant neon sign in the middle of Manchester that says “Sign Carlos Tevez”?

I am, if possible, even more convinced that Tevez must stay, but only if Fergie keeps changing his tactics.
Tevez is too good at disrupting the opponents’ defense/midfield to be relegated to a 70th minute option.
There needs to be a meeting of the minds in Manchester, and Berba/Rooney/Tevez/Fergie must get it sorted. I really don’t think it’s possible to defeat a United squad with the three of them + Slave in the mix.
Wayne, how’s the hangover?

as much as i love tevez and believe that he showed that he is one of the best strikers in the world last year, he has also shown that he is not adapted to his current role of coming off of the bench or going weeks without starting. he hasn’t been able to have the impact out of that role. we need to find someone worth much less than those 30 million pounds that would be able to fill in that solskjaer-like role. i think we deserve better with that money and i think tevez deserves a much better opportunity than he has with united bc i think he would start on any other club in the world.

I agree Taylor, gotta say.
And yeah, no hangover whatsoever! Sadly, I didn’t get very tipsy at all night! It may have seemed like it from my commenting but it’s hard to type between watching the TV, telling two kids to shut up and smoking a fag.
How’s yours T?

Who’s that man from Argentina?
Who’s that man we all adore?
He plays with Rooney, plays with Wes!
He’s our superstar Tevez!
And forever at United he will score. And that’s all I have to say about that…

You clearly feel a stronger affinity towards Tevez than I do, matey! Haha…
