Fingers Crossed!
By: Wayne Farry | May 7th, 2009
Just a quick piece of news that I’ve just heard. In the aftermath of Darren Fletcher’s red card, it seemed like there was little hope that he’d feature in Rome on 27 May. But yesterday, UEFA secretary David Taylor offered some hope, basically saying that if United offered an appeal on the grounds of exceptional circumstances, UEFA could pass it onto a disciplinary committee.
It’s been revealed today that United have acted quickly to take advantage of this. According to many sources, they’ve lodged an appeal on the grounds of compassion.
The referee Roberto Rosetti sent off Fletch late in the second half for what he deemed a professional foul on Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas, even though it’s clear in a replay that he touched the ball. The ref himself hasn’t said a thing about it yet and it remains to be seen if he mentions an error on his part in his official match report.
But from Taylor’s comments, and the grounds on which the appeal has been lodged I think we might have some hope here. It’s unlikely but keep your fingers crossed.

Ha, David Taylor’s comments. It’s like me thinking peeps are talking about me when they write “Wayne” instead of “Wayne Rooney”.

Fletcher will not get this turned over unfortunately..

They should just let him and Abidal play. Its makes a mockery of everything, but it’d be a nice gesture.

Is that sarcasm Rob? If not, I agree. Both were poor decisions. Aside from being a mockery I think it would set a precedent for appeals.

I don’t know why UEFA cannot fathom the fact that refs make mistakes which may sometimes ruin a match.. If it is proven that a decision is blatantly wrong, it should be overturned.. And it’s high time TV referrals are allowed just like in Tennis.. If not that, just a conference with someone having access to television replays..

Both calls were terrible and should be overturned. But you can see UEFA thinking about the precedent-setting potential which will make them stand their ground.
Hey, when is the ticket draw for you folks? Ours is next week (hell yeah my name’s in the hat!).

it has to be in united’s advantage though if fletcher and abidal are both out instead of in. we won last year without fletch in the final and the prospect of 35 year old sylvinho covering the best player in the world is mouth-watering

If the card gets overturned you guys can call me Tevez’s scar / Anderson’s shit on Fabregas or something.
No way in hell.
